Okay, my friend, in the spirit of our community of BFFs getting to know each other better, won’t you take a few moments to answer these questions in the comment section below?
- Christmas tree: real or artificial?
- White lights or colored?
- Your fave Christmas movie.
- Fave Christmas carol.
- Your preference: gift cards or a real gift?
Here are my answers with a brief explanation:
- As a child growing up, we always had a small silver (metallic) tree with a rotating light shining on it. My daddy thought it was pretty (and he was pretty cheap too, which was probably the real reason we never sprang for real trees). Then, in the 48 years I’ve been married, Spouse wouldn’t consider anything but REAL trees so I’ve been vacuuming up pine needles ever since. Maybe one day I can talk him into a realistic [green] artificial tree.
- Both. I like a dignified spattering of white twinkle lights strategically placed, but Spouse strings lights everywhere – following no real pattern or plan – inside the house and out, the more colorful the merrier. At Christmastime, I feel like I live in a carnival.
- Fave Christmas movie: OKAY, PLEASE DON’T JUDGE ME … Ernest Saves Christmas. I know, I know. You’re rolling your eyes right now. But we watched it every single year when my kids were growing up, and when my parents were visiing, they both went into hysterics over the slapstick humor. I have vivid memories of my daddy raring back in side-splitting laughter over that movie, and my mama with laughter-tears trickling down her face. Now that they are in heaven, celebrating with Jesus, I watch it almost reverently, in honor of the happy family memories that silly movie evokes.
- Fave Christmas carol: “Joy to the World! The Lord has come! Let earth receive her king!” Because that song says it all. And when it’s playing in public, the world accepts it as part of the Christmas package and gets to hear the gospel whether they meant to or not.

- My gift preference? I like to give gift cards and receive real gifts. But hey, lay all the Chick-fil-a gift cards on me you want. Can’t get enough of those strawberry lemonade milkshakes!
I can’t wait to see your answers! And dearest BFFs, don’t forget to let me know which of your friends/family you’re sharing my new devotional with this Christmas – Bless Your Heart: Daily Devotions to Warm Your Heart & Feed Your Soul. I’ll drop your name in the hat for the grand prize package drawing coming up on Dec. 16!
